St. Paul Research Plot Guide

All field research conducted on the St. Paul Campus must be approved by Tom Warnke and Mike McClellan.  The research land at St. Paul is available only to official State, Federal or special grant research projects that have been approved by a University of Minnesota department or the USDA.  Requests for field space must be requested by completing on the online form by the Project PI. Please refer to fieldDimensions.xls for plot sizes or to Visio-PlotMap.pdf to view a map of the plots.

Project Expectations

All research projects are responsible for planting their plots.  If Agricultural Services (Tom Warnke) will be requested to plant, please indicate on the research request form. Click the link to see the fees for services completed  by Ag Services.   Also, all projects must leave a border around the outside of their plot for weed control purposes.

All weed control within the research plot area is the responsibility of the research project.  Weed control around the edges of the plot will be conducted by Mike McClellan or Ag Services personnel.  If Ag Services will be requested to apply pesticides to any research area, please indicate on the research request form and contact Tom Warnke directly and give detailed written instructions on where and what pesticides needs to be applied.

All research land is in close proximity to irrigation outlets.  If watering becomes necessary, it can be arranged by contacting Mike McClellan or Tom Warnke.

All research projects are responsible for keeping their research area and adjoining roadways as neat as possible.  It is the projects’ responsibility to pick up things like plot stakes, hoes, garbage, equipment flags and similar items from around their area.  This includes the roadways next to their plots.

Any problems or necessary project changes should be reported to Mike McClellan or Tom Warnke asap.
